Our day out begins in Monteriggioni, an imposing hilltop fortress which has now become a village surrounded by stone walls. Built between 1213 and 1219, it was also mentioned by Dante in his Divine Comedy and is the perfect place to admire the rolling countryside between Florence and Siena.
The tour continues to Siena, a masterpiece in itself; known all over the world for its architectural, cultural and artistic heritage, this Medieval city is recognizable among thousands and is also home to the Palio, a bareback horse race around its main piazza. Siena’s main sights are: Piazza del Campo, Palazzo Pubblico and the astonishing Cathedral (one of the few examples of Italian Gothic architecture); you can’t visit this city without seeing these three attractions!
Later, we will head to San Gimignano and see its 13 towers, the emblem of Medieval Tuscany… The town includes other artistic jewels but most people simply visit it for its idyllic atmosphere, wine and food.
A perfect way to round off an amazing day is to spend some time in a winery located in the heart of Chianti, here you will learn all about the wine-making process and taste some delightful local produce. Basically an immersion into Tuscan culture while having fun!
